Software patents are distasteful. More so, when they start covering such wide topics as handling data in an social networked site, or a content management system (Blackboard Inc). So, discussions on the internet have been growing since Friendster has started hoarding patents.
The question about when Friendster starts suing Myspace and Facebook has started doing the rounds. Though the company hasn’t specified what they intend to do with the growing list of patents in its office, except protect its intellectual property.
As TechDirt.com says, maybe the patent has become the consolation prize for companies that fail.[1]
PS. They have also closed in on a certain court in East Texas[2] where patent trolls usually hang out. Though it is still to be seen if Friendster joins them.
