Mobile payment is booming in India, however as with every new technology, there are still a few hurdles before it can truly come of age in India. Recently the industry faced another problem.

The operators are saying that the revenue coming through the mobile payment would be a pass-through revenue because all the money goes from one person to another. If the charges for mobile payment are also added to service taxes, the operators would need to pay a lot more than the 6-10% of revenues which they are already paying to the government.

This new initiative started by Airtel and SBI, would ride on Mastercard’s framework which already connects 25,000 banks.

Let us hope that the buttheads at our government solve this confusion so that we can start making use of this amazing service.
