3G policy by April end

The much awaited policy on 3G mobile networks is going to announced by the end of this month. Department of Telecommunications (DOT) Secretary DS Mathur said today that ministry was already in talks with Air force to vacate the 45MHz spectrum and agreed to release the 40 MHz range as well.

The technology would allow users to have access to high speed internet access on their mobiles. This one small step would bring mobile users in India the ability to access audio, video and other high bandwidth websites, right on their mobiles. It would also help to propel e-commerce to a new level, because the mobile penetration in India surpasses even the combined total of computer and internet access in India.
