WebYantra talks about Burrp.com today, since they revamped their homepage. Deap Ubhi, who heads Burrp.com has sent screenshots of the new homepage (shown above, via WebYantra).
In the article, he mentions some statistics which were given to him by the company. The one thing that I found interesting was that the company claims that they have 1.5 lakh page views a DAY. Now I’m not one to slam a website without much proof, but the numbers do look shady.
For example you consider PagalGuy.com which has been running for the last three years and has been a big hit in its category. They claim to receive about 2 lakh hits a MONTH.
Okay, you might say that maybe Burrp.com is really a lot bigger that PagalGuy, but if you look up the sitemeter statistics for TechCrunch, one of the biggest and the most read tech blogs on the internet, you can see that they get close to 1,22,453 page views a day.
I find it hard to believe that Burrp.com gets more hits than TechCrunch.
Also Alexa rankings are not really very efficient at determining the exact values, but if you compare Techcrunch and Burrp.com, Techcrunch completely dominates. According to Alexa, they are not much bigger than this blog. Heh.
What do you think?

Sudhansu, Nice post.
I agree with you, Alexa traffic number doesn’t seems to indicate that Burrp gets so high traffic.
At the same time, I think people in India doesn’t use Alexa toolbar much, so if bulk of their traffic is from India (Which apparently is), then it may be true that they have very high traffic.

What about the TechCrunch stats? Burrp.com is definitely not bigger than them.
As far as Alexa is concerned, most of Indianpads traffic is from India and they are quite well off according to Alexa too.

A majority of people reach Techcrunch through feed readers. Hence the anomaly. btw, who trusts Alexa anyway?

I am just wondering why we are bothering about traffic on burp.
Does customer bother about page views while selecting a services?
I dont think so.
Secondly without having compelte and confirmed info about traffic from burp we cannot take/give fare evaluation of traffic.

One thing is for sure, everybody hates Alexa

Your guess abut traffic is as good as mine … I don’t believe what numbers they claim …

PaGaLGuY.com gets 2Lakh unique visitors per month and 60Lakh page views per month.
Alexa is the worse method to track traffic in India.
Do get your facts correct.
It’s plain stupid comparing any international site with one in india. Alexa can be a tool to compare similar sites in India.

Bunty, I just can’t believe that you are in any way related to Pagalguy, so I don’t know why have you linked to their site. They seem to be a bunch of really smart people and you definitely don’t seem to fit in there.
By the way, it would really help if you could quote your source or provide me with a better solution.
And thanks for coming to Gyaan Sutra, I hope you liked the rest of the posts.

Burrp seems to be doing well… there is no doubt about it. But this figure of 1.5 lakh page views per DAY does seem to be more like an over-exaggerated figure.

Burrp is a good website where people can share their experience and also give reviews abt local restaurants, cafe, etc. Therefore high traffic can be expected. I had won me a movie tickets just a week ago. It is one among my regularly visited websites.
other website which i use are clickindia.com. It is a classified protal. Through it we can sell or buy anything.
