Microsoft launching $3 windows

Microsoft Corporation Chairman Bill Gates has unveiled plans of launching a $3 version of windows for student’s in developing countries. Governments in developing countries can purchase the version if they buy PC’s for students.

This was announced as Microsoft faces challenge from One Laptop Per Child(OLPC) (Read Atanu Dey’s blog about why OLPC isn’t for India), which is selling millions of laptops in Libya, Nigeria, Egypt, Rwanda and Ethiopia.

The low cost package includes Windows XP Starter Edition, Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007, Microsoft Math 3.0, Learning Essentials 2.0 for Microsoft Office and Windows Live Mail desktop.
