Soap Operas have dominated the television sets for over five years now, just like the cell phone has dominated the gadget loving Indian population(hic). So now, STAR India has come up with a service called ‘PLUS’ which would combine the two and give you your favorite soap operas on your mobile. The service is planned to start by the end of this month. Star India plans to invest close to 50-60 crore in the business, over the next one year. They also plan to spend another 10-15 on marketing and promotion.

A pilot version of ‘Plus’ is already running, and it enables users to access yellow pages, buyer guides, banking, travel, ticketing, shopping and sports services. And as already said above, you can also watch any of your favorite soaps from across the STAR network, on your mobile phone. The serials would be available for download 15 minutes after the show ends.

Update : ContentSutra adds that Star Mobile has tied up with Hutch, Idea, BSNL, MTNL and Spice (Airtel is still missing). The service would be free for the first one month, and would charge Rs 30 per month from them on.
