Continuing with our series of interviews with Indian Online Entrepreneurs, I bring to you the interview with the founder of Walkin.wordpress.com and ChaloWalkin.com. ChaloWalkin is a blog devoted to Walkin Interviews in India, while Walkin caters to the Asian Job Scene.
He is one of the biggest job bloggers in India, and almost 12,000 people read his daily RSS feeds. It might be hard for some to imagine, but other than working on his regular job, he puts in 4 hours every single day, and has been doing so for the last one year.
Here is the rest of the interview.
What was the idea behind starting Walkin, and then ChaloWalkin?
I am myself a techie and I used to look out for information regarding Walk-in interviews of Oracle India. So, I realised that there should be a place where we can get such information about Walk-in Interviews.
Could you give me some idea about yourself, and how you created Walking and ChaloWalkin.
I am a Databases guy who became a job blogger by chance which has become a passion now.
Are you currently getting any funding? If not, are you looking for some in the future?
I am not getting any funding at present. In future I am looking out for funding with the help of which these blogs can be given a new direction and are able to serve thousands of Job Seekers who need help and guidance.
The buzz around Walkin and ChaloWalkin have been increasing at an amazing pace. Your feedburner stats show about 13000 feed readers across the two web sites.
Initially I never imagined that we would reach at this stage.I would like to thank my readers for investing their faith in us.
Do you plan to push growth or would let it grow organically in the future (and why?)
We are planning to push growth and are coming up with a new concept in the Social Networking arena. This project is currently under wraps. We are partnering with another Indian Job Blog on this (I was just told it’s JobMilan).I will be able to let the community know about it once we are there.
What are your expectations from the sites?
I want these sites to be able to meet the expectations of our audience.
How much traffic are the sites currently generating?
The sites are currently generating good amount of traffic with new subscribers being added daily. I would not like to give too much details into that. But our Subscriber base can give you some indication.
What cool features can we expect on chalowalkin by the end of this year?
I will keep incorporating new features as we move forward. For that, keep visiting Chalowalkin.
Who are the major competitors of Walkin, and how have you proved to be better than them.
Competition is always good for any product and we are also enjoying it.
What were the major issues that you faced since you started Walkin?
The major issue has always been time as I have been doing it singlehandedly most of the time .It takes lot of time to get all the information at a single place and then post that stuff on the blog.
If there was one thing you could change about the way you started this time, what would it be, and why?
I would have liked to start Chalowaklin a bit earlier.
I would like to know one incident, where you felt like it was all going down. And how did you get back?
I have never felt like that till now as I am an eternal optimist.
Do you think entrepreneurs have a chance in India in the current scenario, which exists without much of a support for startups.
Entrepreneurs have definitely a chance in the present scenario but they need to be innovative in the approach and follow their passion.
Which are the best Indian internet companies that you have heard about or used.
Bixee, Burrp, Slideshare and hopefully the next BIG one should be ours.
