Rashmi Bansal of Youth Curry has started a mini-series on entrepreneurs. The first article of the series is an interview with Prakash Mundhra of Sacred Moments who started his company about an year back (May 2006), and has made over Rs 35 lakhs ($85,400) over six months with an initial investment of about Rs 3-4 lakhs ($9,760).

Prakahs is an MBA from Pune based SCMHRD and his company sells ‘puja kits’. The idea started when he entered the ‘ITC Mera Gaon Mera Desh’ contest to develop strategies for ITC products. He chose Mangaldeep Agarbattis and came up with a business plan about expanding into religious products. The idea was not a winner there, but it did help him win ‘Zee TV’s Business Baazigar’. After refining his idea further, he managed to win 5 of the 6 business plan contests he entered.

After leaving college, and refining his idea over a number of contests while he was in business school, he joined ICICI Prudential. However, he quit within a month and decided to start out.

Even though there were not too many confirmed orders, he decided to manufacture 12,000 kits, and within six months he managed to sell all of them. Not just that, he made close to 35 lakhs over the first six months and has not moved to Ahmedabad and added more products to the line.

I guess here is the perfect example of a company which comes up with a terrific business model and starts up without an Angel, and manages to make a massive profit in the initial few months.

If you haven’t read it yet, head over to Rashmi’s blog and read the complete post. Who knows it just inspire you too.
